17 districts of Orissa declared Naxal hit

Naxala issues is becoming one of the main threat to India's internal security. In the last three years at least 2600 people laid to death in Naxal related violence. Out of all states like Orissa, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar witnessed maximum violence. From January 2006 to August 2009, there are 2212 loss of life in these states due to Naxal related violence.

Out of 30 districts of Orissa, 17 have already been declared as Naxal hit districts. Central govt has taken few initiatives to prevent the violence. A plan has been proposed to hit back the Naxals with a mammoth 40,000 paramilitary forces. Rs. 7300 crore package has been declared to develop the Naxal hit areas.

It is to be note that the Naxal movement has started by Mr Charu Mazumdar of CPI (Maoist) in May 15th 1967 in protest of the killing of a farmers by some influential people due to some land dispute. This year CPI(Maoist) has been banned by the Govt.
